Union Grove Baptist Church in Salemburg, North Carolina, recently embarked on a significant upgrade of their playground to enhance safety and reduce maintenance. The old wooden play structure, while once a charming feature, had deteriorated over time and was no longer safe for the children. Recognizing the need for a more durable and low-maintenance solution, the church decided to replace the wooden residential equipment with commercial-grade play equipment made from steel and plastic.
The new steel and plastic equipment offers several advantages over wood. Unlike wood, which can rot and decay, steel and plastic are highly resistant to the elements, ensuring a longer lifespan and greater safety. Additionally, commercial play equipment is modular, meaning that individual elements can be easily replaced if they become damaged, further extending the life of the playground.
To complement the new play equipment, we installed PIP (poured-in-place) rubber surfacing instead of traditional wood mulch. PIP rubber provides superior safety by offering better shock absorption and a more stable surface for play. It also significantly reduces the need for annual replacement of wood mulch, which can be labor-intensive and costly.
